Minding my own beeswax...

I am an individual urban beekeeper so I apologize in advance if my prices cannot compete with commercial honey producers.  What I can guarantee is 100% pure honey produced in the 9th ward with all the benefits of local pollen.

For this reason, I prefer to sell locally in NOLA.  I can ship anywhere in the US (email me if interested), but I highly encourage you to find a beekeeper to support near you!

The first year of harvest I just gave all the honey away.   Years later, I'm still recouping what I've spent on the bees. The bee population is declining, yet oddly enough, "honey" consumption is up.  Makes you wonder...but you don't have to wonder about my honey!

You can come visit me in my yard and "meet the girls" if we arrange it.

So, I thank you for valuing local, ethically sourced honey enough to pay for it.  I always try to do what's natural and best for my bees.  Some of you have seen me looking crazy from a bee sting on my face, or tiptoeing in the dark just to move my hives a few inches at a time.  If you think summer in New Orleans is hot, imagine being out on a sunny July afternoon wearing a full bee suit and lifting heavy boxes full of bees!

But my effort is nothing compared to the work that bees accomplish.  They say every pound of honey contains the nectar of 2 million flowers.  Or that a single bee flies the distance equivalent to around the world 3 times to produce that same pound of honey.  And in the process of doing so, they pollinate the plants of so many other foods that we consume and enjoy.

Working with bees has heightened my awareness and gratitude for life.  As individual and collective organisms, I marvel endlessly at their work ethic, behavior, and flight/dance/communication.  For countless reasons, bees deserve our best efforts to protect their food and habitat.  At the end of the day, what is good for bees is good for humans too~!

Thanks for reading this, and for joining me on my bee journey.  🐝 💕
